Archdiocesan Safe Environment PolicyThe Archdiocese strives to implement policies, procedures, and training that may help protect the safety of children, young people, and vulnerable adults who are enrolled in our parish schools, religious education classes, and other programs.Education is a key element of the Safe Environment program. All clergy, employees, contracted school personnel, volunteers, members of groups, movements, and organizations over the age of 18, who work, volunteer, or participate in any capacity are required to complete the Archdiocesan Safe Environment Training and a criminal background check before they may begin employment, volunteer, or participate with ministries, groups, movements, and organizations. In addition, the mandatory renewal training must be completed every 5 years and a new background check submitted before the 5 year expiration of prior training. The Archdiocese of Galveston Houston Safe Environment compliance training and renewal training is a condition of employment and for volunteer ministry in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.

Safe Environment Training Programs
The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston currently offers two online safe environment training programs through Catholic Mutual Group (CMG).
1. The initial training, "Safe Environment MANDATORY Training - Safe Haven Training" which includes a short video series entitled 'Safe Haven, It's Up to You" must be completed prior to the start of employment and/or volunteer service. It is a three-part video series that provides vignettes of real-life situations to educate the viewer about methods of grooming, desensitization, bullying, and neglect of minors, all of which can lead to abuse. Each part of the video series is immediately followed by a brief questionnaire to further develop understanding, concluding with a criminal background check. The amount of time to complete this program can vary, but please allow up to 90 minutes.
2. The refresher training, "Safe Environment - MANDATORY 5 Year Renewal Training" includes a video entitled 'Protecting Vulnerable Adults' and is offered five years after taking the initial training. This training course is one 20-minute video providing information on how to recognize and report suspected abuse and neglect of adults who are unable to care for themselves, concluding with a criminal background check. Please allow up to 30 minutes to complete this program.
These trainings are each good for five (5) years and are available in both English and Spanish.

CMG Connect Online Training InstructionsUnfortunately, these training programs are not compatible with cell phone or tablet/ iPad usage at this time.If you do not have access to a computer or would like assistance, please contact Teresa or Aurora at the number below.
First, follow this link to CMG Connect: https://galvestonhouston.cmgconnect.org/- New to CMG Connect online training? Follow these steps:
- Click "Register for a New Account". Follow the prompts to register your new CMG Connect account.
- On your main dashboard, click the Start button to complete the “Safe Haven Training” online video training, which consists of 3 short vignette-style videos, each followed by a few questions. Please allow up to 90 minutes to complete this training.
- Make sure the background check step at the end is completed.
- Needing to Complete Your 5 Year Renewal? Follow these steps:
- Click the 'Sign In' button under "Existing Accounts" at the top right of the page. Use your previous user ID and password. If you need help with your user ID or password, please contact Teresa or Aurora and we will assist you.
- On your main dashboard, click the Start button to complete the "Five Year Renewal - Protecting Vulnerable Adults Training" online video training, which consists of watching one short video. Please allow up to 30 minutes to complete this training.
- Make sure the background check step at the end is completed.
