Spiritual Direction

Is spiritual direction for you? 
Often people believe they are not sufficiently “advanced” in their spiritual life to enter into spiritual direction.  They may believe spiritual direction is only for clergy, or those well on their way to sainthood. That is simply not true. Spiritual direction is for anyone who desires a deeper, more intimate relationship with God. A spiritual director will prayerfully journey alongside you to help you see more clearly the movement in God in your life.

Spiritual Direction is a ministry of holy listening in which a person meets with a spiritual director on a regular basis, typically monthly. Spiritual direction is about claiming our true identity as unconditionally loved and chosen by God and deepening our awareness of God’s active and creative presence in our lives. Spiritual direction is also about growing in self-awareness as we discover what promotes or inhibits our relationship with God and thus our response to God’s invitation to be loved and to be love in the world. 

Spiritual directors  
The privilege and responsibility of a spiritual director is to journey with you as you deepen your relationship with God.  The journey takes place in the context of a confidential one-on-one session with your spiritual director. Spiritual directors at St. Bernadette have completed extensive training and formation, attend to ongoing education and meet with their own spiritual directors as well as engage in individual or group supervision. You and your spiritual director will agree on a convenient meeting, usually once a month for an hour. You may choose to meet with a spiritual director for a short period of time or for many years.
